Senior Robotics Systems Software Engineer

The Senior Software Engineer plays an important role for the Software Engineering Applications team, contributing significantly to the development of our in-house robot software applications. You will utilize your strong background in Python and C++ to develop interfaces, workflows, and integrate cutting-edge autonomy features. You will identify performance bottlenecks, collaborate with cross-functional teams on robot control, and prioritize projects and tasks for the benefit of our end customers.

Essential Job Functions:

  • Play a key role in defining, architecting, and developing our in-house robot software applications
  • Actively contribute code, focusing on creating solutions that are extensible, maintainable, scalable, and impactful.
  • Improve software application performance through profiling, debugging, and testing
  • Support integration of state-of-the-art autonomy features (deep learning models and pipelines, state-of-the-art mapping, perception, and motion planning algorithms)
  • Take ownership and initiative for improving the quality of the software applications and architectures
  • Collaborate across disciplines (Hardware, Firmware, Cloud, Autonomy) to build a cohesive application capable of running on multiple robot platforms
  • Support and train junior engineers as needed
  • Assist in other duties and responsibilities as assigned.

Education and/or Work Experience Requirements: 

  • BS or MS in Computer Science or related engineering discipline
  • 5-7 years of demonstrated experience in software development

Required Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, and Other Characteristics: 

  • Strong proficiency with Python and C++ production-level coding
  • Excellent understanding of the software development lifecycle for robotics, encompassing system design, integration, and maintenance, emphasizing scalable and modular architecture
  • Knowledgeable in testing, quality assurance, CI/CD practices, and system monitoring, with a dedication to continuous learning and team collaboration
  • Distill product requirements into actionable engineering tasks while leaving room for design and implementation discussions
  • Demonstrated flexibility and adaptability, able to navigate and thrive in fast-paced environments, streamline processes in line with the Brain’s emphasis on simplicity, and balance multiple priorities with a focus on delivering value to customers.
  • Strong organizational, analytical, reasoning and problem-solving skills
  • A creative and open mind, eager to drive the future of robotics

Things that make a difference:

  • Experience in autonomous vehicles, robotics, or related industry
  • Familiarity with robotic sensors such as 3D cameras and lidar
  • Experience with complex build systems like Cmake
  • Disciplined to staying informed on new technologies and development trends

Salary Range:

The anticipated salary range for candidates who will work in San Diego, California is $133,565 to $161,684. The final salary offered to a successful candidate will be dependent on several factors that may include but are not limited to the type and length of experience within the job, type and length of experience within the industry, education, etc. Brain Corp is a multi-state employer and this salary range may not reflect positions that work in other states.
