San Diego, Calif. ( 11/21/2017) – Brain Corporation today announced that in the summer of 2018 it will enter the commercial cleaning robot business in Japan in partnership with SoftBank Robotics Corp. (“SoftBank Robotics”).
SoftBank Robotics will offer the ICE RS26 robotic floor scrubber that comes fully integrated with automated driverless technology to enable driverless floor cleaning. The RS26 is powered by BrainOS® – Brain Corp’s award-winning A.I. platform – which allows human operators to map a route of the cleaning area after an initial ride. Once the route has been programmed, the machine operator simply presses the “Start” button located on the rear end of the floor scrubber to begin cleaning autonomously. The machine uses multiple sensors to scan its surroundings for people and obstacles it needs to avoid.
Since 2015, SoftBank Robotics has offered Pepper for Biz to enterprise customers. Pepper is now being used as a hospitality robot across a wide range of industries including retail, restaurants, hotels, hospitals and more, to support people at work. Building on its hospitality robot offering, SoftBank Robotics is now entering the new commercial cleaning robot territory as its next business. By utilizing Brain Corp’s automated driverless technology, SoftBank Robotics will address challenges facing Japan’s cleaning industry, which is suffering from chronic worker shortages.
Brain Operating System (BrainOS®)
BrainOS® is the foundation of Brain technology. It is a proprietary operating system that integrates with off-the-shelf hardware and sensors to provide a cost-effective “brain” for robots. It plays the same role for robots as Android OS plays for smartphones.
BrainOS® has computer vision and A.I. libraries that enable quick and efficient development of smart systems that learn and adapt to people and environment. Its navigation stack provides advanced self-driving capabilities for cluttered and dynamic indoor environments. The stack takes into account robot geometry and dynamics, preventing collisions with obstacles — which is the essential safety requirement for robotic applications.
