Position Summary:

As a member of the UX Product Design team, the UX Product Design Intern/Co-op student will participate in Brain’s development of intelligent, autonomous navigation systems for use in everyday machines. The position is located at Brain’s San Diego Headquarters.

Anticipated Project Areas & Learning Opportunities:

  • Collaborate on the design and application of a unified Design System
  • Design UI flows and screen layouts for new robotic features
  • Other duties and projects as assigned

We are seeking someone that:

  • Is working on a degree in Cognitive Science (Cog Sci), Human-Robot Interactions (HRI), Human-Computer Interaction (HCI), applied Clinical Psychology, or other UX design-focused degree.
  • Available for 3 months, approximately (June - September 2022) for Internship or 6 months, approximately (June-December 2022) for Co-op
  • Has a strong empathy for end-user needs
  • Has proven collaboration and small-group communication skills
  • Is passionate about creating good UX/UI designs
  • Is self-driven day to day, and knows when to reach out for help (intern and other team members may be working remotely)
  • Has enthusiasm for the robotics industry and eagerness to work on new & challenging technologies and projects

Things that make a difference:

  • Experience with human-robot interactions
  • UX design/research experience, previous internship, or related classwork/group projects
  • Experience with information architecture design tools (Sketch, InVision…) and/or Adobe Creative Cloud (Photoshop, Illustrator, XD…)
  • Verbal skills in Spanish in addition to English for interviewing robot operators
